Alternators:

The East Coast Auto Electric Ultra Mini Provides a great balance between size output and weight. It produces 55 amps and weighs just 6 lbs! I have used one since 2002 and NEVER put my battery on a charger.  For installations with large full length deep sump oil pans in dragsters with frame rails narrower than 20” it is the only choice. Dragsters with either wider frame rails or stepped sump oil pans can opt for a larger alternator such as the ECAE 2002/2003 Super Mini, Powermaster  PN 8062 or equivalent. ALWAYS CONFIRM PROPER PULLEY RATIOS WITH THE ALTERNATOR MANUFACTURER FOR YOUR PARTICULAR APPLICATION.

Fuel Pumps:

The RPD Multiple Accessory Mounting System can accommodate many types of belt driven fuel pumps. If you don’t see your particular model please contact RPD. Usually just a simple adapter is required to retrofit a pump.

Crank Triggers:

The RPD Multiple Accessory Mounting System is designed to be used with MSD Part number 8620 crank trigger. Installation of the trigger wheel is necessary for proper alternator pulley alignment.

Drive Mandrels:

Just about any drive mandrel can be used with the RPD MAM. Ron’s 1” keyed mandrel works nicely and does not require any spacers to locate the pulleys so for a quick bolt on solution it is probably best. Both Star Manufacturing and Jones Racing Products sell very nice drive mandrels. Both use spacers to locate the pulleys so some machining will be required to install either of these mandrels. RPD will be glad to machine your spacers at a small additional cost.  The Star mandrel is designed to be used with their 5” v-belt pulley. The Jones mandrel is also designed to be used with their 5” diameter v-belt pulley. Be sure to specify which mandrel you intend to use so RPD can make the proper adjustments to the alternator spacing to provide the proper pulley alignment. See ordering instructions.

Alternator Drive Pulleys:

The RPD MAM is designed to be used with an ECAE 5” crank pulley PN 2250 and both billet and cast Moroso 5” crank pulleys PN’s 64201 and 64200 respectively. Be sure to specify if you are using a Star or Jones pulley so RPD can make the proper adjustments to the alternator spacing to provide the proper pulley alignment. See ordering instructions.

Vacuum Pumps:

In most cases the vacuum pump is driven by a pulley that is located forward of the alternator and fuel pump pulleys and therefore they do not interfere with the RPD system. You just need a mandrel long enough to accommodate your pulleys. RPD has developed a mounting bracket for the Star vacuum pump that locates the pump on the cylinder head with the fittings pointing up regardless of belt adjustment and also works with both tall and short deck blocks while still using the same drive belt. Contact RPD for more information.

Oil Pans:

Oil pans with large passenger side kickouts do not interfere with the fuel pump with the RPD MAM. However, full length, full depth sump pans are an issue with alternator mounting. The full depth sump at the front of the pan does not allow the alternator to be tucked in towards the engine to avoid interference with the frame rails. For this reason it is recommended to use the ECAE Ultra Mini for applications with such oil pans.

Frame Rails:

All RPD MAMs fit inside 20” wide framerails and the systems using the ECAE 2025 Ultra Mini will fit inside 18” frame rails with no problems. Measure between the upper and lower framerails to obtain this measurement. If there are no uprights in the area where the alternator will be (from 1” behind your front motor plate to 4” in front of the motor plate) then you can measure your framerails outside to outside because the alternator can swing into the space between the upper and lower frame rail and the body panel is the limiting object instead of an upright.
